Not much going on...

My week seems to go by fast since I work now, instead of sitting around and watching reruns of reality TV shows. It makes me get behind on the blog. But really I guess I don't have much to say since Andy and I are both working and just having regular old days. I find that I'm tired all over again like when I first started being with the 1st graders. I'm so worn out I don't even open my computer to see what's going on in the world.

I guess lately I have been feeling more homesick too. My friends are in sad places right now and I can't be there in Kansas. I miss seeing my nephew, going shopping with my mom, and talking with my sisters. Also, the time difference prevents me from talking with everyone.

Also, I thought I would have made more friends but I find that to be difficult as well. Kind of the same complaint I had last summer but worse. The ladies that don't have kids are very young and have only known the military life. It's hard to talk to them about anything else. They love being a "Marine Wife". Oh well...life goes on.

I start my new position on Monday. I'll let you know how it goes. Talk with you later!

Basketball Part 3

Where do I begin? Hmmm...

When Andy was practicing he hit numerous 3-point shots. I can't say the same for the actual game though. He ended the night with only 8 points. Bummer!

The game was also a loss for his command with a score of 51-59. But I will say that last season (Andy was deployed) his command team averaged a score of twenty-something. So I feel like it has already been a more successful season when you compare it to the last one!

Basketball Part 2

Basketball season has started! I don't mind basketball like my love/hate relationship with softball. Games last about an hour and then we're done.

Last week Andy had a game and I put that information in the midst of a bunch of other stuff. Why shouldn't he have his own special on-going basketball blog. I mean, I do talk about myself way more than Andy. Although, I do write the blog. Back to my point...since this is the second game, I put it as part 2, even though this is the first of the special updates.

Andy played against a tough team. Andy only scored ten points. Two-2 point shots, two-3 point shots, and missed two free throw shots. How does that happen? He makes 3-point shots but can't make the free throw shots? He IS NOT Shaq for goodness sakes!

In the first half, the other team was up consistently by 3-5 points. But in the second half Andy's team came out strong. They ended up winning (pause, gotta check my notes) 53-46. It was a very sloppy game (Andy slipped or fell over his own feet) and many turn-overs but it worked out in the end.

Stay tuned. Next game 1/27/09

I won't complain

I won't complain but I will vent just a bit. When I left work on Friday, I was scheduled to work 19 hours this week. I wasn't exactly happy about having only a few hours but then I thought about it. That will be nice to have an easy week and get myself prepared for working 40 hours again. Today was supposed to be from 9-11 and then 3:30-5:00. I worked the 9-11 and said I was going home and I'd see them at 3:30, when they said "you're supposed to be in C-1 from 11-6. Imagine my surprise when I was told that my schedule had been changed and I was supposed to have gotten called about it. I'm now scheduled for 38.25 hours this week. How can I complain when hours equals money?

Sometimes it's hard

I can't say enough how happy I am to be here with Andy. While he was deployed, all I wanted to do was be here in Hawaii. Without going into detail, two of my friends suffered a lose this week. These are times when I wish I was back in Kansas to be there for my friends. It's hard to be so far away, have a 4 hour time difference and be there for them. So to my friends, please know you are in my thoughts and I wish I could be there for you in person instead of just mind.

I got it!

Yesterday I interviewed for the lead teacher position and today I found out I got the job! I start the new job on Feb. 1st. Next week's schedule is very crazy and I'm glad I only have a week of that madness. I don't think I could handle it if that was my job all the time. But now I don't have to worry about that or even think about it because it's only my job for one more week. I just thought I would share the good news.

Another day, another dollar

I'm so glad tomorrow is Friday (today by the time you read this). I'm so tired. I have been in the infant room all week and they wear me out. Next week I have a crazy schedule and I'm not looking forward to going in at all. I did interview for the lead teacher position this morning and I hope I get it. I like being with the infants (it isn't as scary as I thought it would be) and it pays a heck of a lot more. I'm thinking my paycheck is going to be a lot smaller than I'm used to.

Andy is still working awful hours and it makes it hard to see each other. He is unhappy about his hours and seems to be grumpier than normal. But maybe I just think that because I'm tired.

We are planning on having a cook-out this weekend at the beach. I know some of you may be feeling a little upset that we are hanging out on the beach while you're in cold weather. But it will be warm for you soon and if the news is correct, some of you are already feeling the warmth. I plan on snorkeling again before the cook-out. Afterwards, I might be too full from eating and sink to the bottom =). I'm going to try and take lots of pictures of my adventure under the water.

Scrabble

Good old Scrabble...it's a nice way to spend time together. But as of late we are unable to play very much because I'm working (I used to have so much extra time) and Andy has a messed up work schedule right now. One day while on itunes, I noticed that you can get Scrabble for the ipod. Of course I bought it! I've been practicing. Andy and I have turns beating each other but I want to beat him all the time. I'm sure he feels the same way. I guess Andy felt nervous after I beat the computer because he put it on his ipod as well. He should be nervous! The other night while we were laying in bed we played Scrabble on the ipod against each other. How convenient! Technology is great! And I beat him really bad...practice really does make perfect.

I even went to the book store and bought a book, The Official Scrabble Word-Finder by Robert W. Schachner. This way I can beat Andy all the time and then when I go home I can beat my dad too. He always wins...drives me nuts! I guess one could say that I'm armed and ready when it comes to Scrabble.

P.S.-I KNOW YOU MAY BE THINKING THAT I'M A BIG DORK BUT WE REMEMBER, WE ALL HAVE A LITTLE DORK IN US. I'M JUST GLAD THAT ANDY'S A DORK WITH ME!

Updates!

I know it has been several days since I've been on here. My new job has been keeping me very busy and I'm worn out by the time I get home. So here are our updates from this past week and weekend. Oh and if you are wondering I like my new job, lets just say it isn't anything like teaching and the jury is still deliberating on if I like it or not.

Andy, myself, and another couple (Keith and Leigh Ann from softball) went hiking to a lighthouse. Here are pictures from that.

Leigh Ann and myself on top of a big rock with the ocean behind us.

Andy on top of the water...it looks like that anyway.

The lighthouse

The island in the back is our base...doesn't it look like a turtle?

Here is Oliver in his new clothes. Our base is going "green". They will soon no longer have plastic bags for groceries or when you go to the exchange and buy things. We have already started buying the reusable bags. Also, they are going to use solar power for as many things as possible.

Sorry for the dark pic. Here is Andy at his first basketball game of the season. They won by forty something points. Andy had 15 points!

The best news for last. I finally learned how to snorkel and I loved it. We used Andy's new underwater camera and took pictures of me and a...

slug. You can barely see it. Andy missed all the pictures of the schools of fish because I was in front of him and scared them all away by the time he was able to take the pictures. Next time I'll hold the camera!

And there you have it...that's our life in a quick nutshell of the past few days.

Happy Birthday Andy!

Photobucket

Andy turns the BIG 3-0 today. Happy birthday love!

Work begins

This week I have been busy taking classes that teach me about the Marine Corps and customer service. All I heard was blah, blah, blah. Tomorrow I start training at the Child Development Center for two days. I'm going to be in several different classrooms for two hour increments at a time. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm not sure what to think yet.

We are planning to go to the North Shore this weekend to check out a surfing contest. The waves are supposed to be the largest of the year. We are very excited and if we go, we'll take pictures for you to see.

Bye for now!

Our Big Island Trip

I would love to post more pictures than the ones in the slide show, but we took around 300 or so pictures. I hope you enjoy seeing them. The pictures can't capture what we saw but we hope you can get a pretty good idea. The lava was as far as the eye could see in some places. It was incredible.

We're back

Good morning. We are back from the Big Island. We got in about nine last night. The Big Island was amazing, breath-taking, and beautiful. We took so many pictures, about 300. I'll get them (no all) posted this weekend so you can see our adventure.

Today however, I'm going to get rested up and get unpacked. We were nonstop for three days and I just want to lay around today. Poor Andy had to go back to work today and is working off and on this weekend.

Next week I have several classes that I have to attend in order to work on the base. So it looks like today is the last day of my extended vacation.

Everyone have an awesome weekend.

Things that make you wonder

Yesterday as we were driving home from our errands, I saw a RV down the road from our house. I thought how odd. A RV on an island? Where are they going to go in the RV? They can't go to another state.

Speaking of traveling...it looks like we won't be able to go to the Big Island. Andy's leave hasn't been approved yet and it won't be till Monday. We wanted to leave Monday after Andy got off work. I should know better than to get excited about things. I just tend to get let down. Andy is too. We really wanted to go. Oh well, what can you do?

Have a great weekend everyone!
