How Funny!

Football Weekend

It was a football weekend. Friday it was my old high school's homecoming. I was happy that they won, although it was a close game during the 4th quarter. I had left by that time so I didn't see the excitement. But I heard about it...that was good enough. I enjoyed another night with my friends and had some laughs as always.

Saturday K-State played, unfortunately they didn't have the same luck. Andy was also disappointed in the teams he was watching. Can't win them all right?

And last, the Chiefs lost as well. Geezz!

The only good news is that the dodgers are doing great right now. I am cheering for them since we watched them in LA. It's very exciting.

So yes, the weekend was very laid back. I watched a lot of football but I did make time to watch a chick-flick with my friend Maia. And the best part of the weekend was I got to see my God Son Xavier.

Making progress

Today was another great day at school with the kiddos. Was it perfect? Of course not! Math time, which has been the toughest hour of our past days was a semi-success. What did I do different today? Technology! I learned how to use a SMART board today. It's an interactive piece of technology that is wonderful. It did take my whole lunch and 3 teachers to get it to finally work. We all know technology is the best thing ever...when it works. I just thought I'd share my little bit of success.

One side note: yes, I did go to the gym today if you were wondering =)

The countdown is on!

Voting time is almost upon us and I am still undecided of who will get my vote. Lets face it, is there really a HUGE difference in the candidates. Well, in some cases yes but with the checks and balance system in place, maybe not. Sarah Palin has drummed up some enthusiasm but I often say "yes she's charismatic, but does someone you want to be friends with also mean they would make a good leader?" The answer to me is a very obvious NO. I am eager to watch the debate tonight and see how Palin does. Especially since she hasn't done very well in her prime time interviews. Do I have anything bad to say about McCain, Obama, or Bidden? Of course I do! At the end of the day I have to vote for the person that most represents me. Do any of them represent me? Hell no! Not even Palin, who is extremely conservative and I am definitely not. Who cares that she's a woman. I'm a Democrat and I won't vote for a Democrat unless I think they are a good choice. I feel that way about Palin. She doesn't get my vote just because she's a woman.

I ALSO have to think about my new role as a military wife. Who would best serve the military and keep my husband safe? Who will keep the military strong so we have job security? Republicans normally are the party that will do this. In this day in age, I think could either party afford not to keep our military strong?

This blog is to be completed at a later date. In about 15 min. the debate starts and I still have a lot of thinking to do. I'm excited to see how it all will turn out. And no matter how it does play out, it is a history making election. I love that I am able to be part of it.

In light of recent events

Yesterday I found out that my friend got into trouble for her blog. Last night I couldn't fall asleep because I was thinking about this. I often leave things out of my blog. I don't have any reason for it. Maybe it's because I vent about things elsewhere and I don't feel that I need to say it in the blog. That being said, I know this summer when I was in Hawaii I enjoyed being able to say things in the blog. I felt it was an outlet. Here is the problem though...if I were on the receiving end of one of her blogs, might I have been upset? Most likely, yes. BUT, it is HER blog and HER outlet. Is it any different than her going around talking about it and then it getting back to that person? I know plenty of people who do that. And she wasn't telling lies, it just happen to be how she saw the situation.

A while back I stopped writing so much on my blog. I became aware of some people looking at my blog just to be nosey. I created the blog so our family and friends were able to see our life. It bothered me to know that other people could be looking at it just to talk trash on me and my new life. I was told I was being ridiculous for not writing so much. But now I realize that I wasn't.

I guess what I'm saying is...I like the blog because I can reflect on things that are going on in our life and its like keeping a diary. I have to give Andy credit for the diary idea. I don't want someone telling me what I can and can't say on my blog because it hurts someones feelings. Maybe my feelings are hurt and I want to talk about it. What's wrong with that?

Happy Tuesday?

Yes, it is a Tuesday. It has been a very interesting day for being its in the middle of the week.

Andy and I didn't start the day off very well. We tend to argue when things are changing in our lives. I think the anxiety of not knowing what will be happening tends to put us on the edge. In a couple of weeks (or maybe less) he'll be getting transferred and we aren't sure how things will be (as I've said before). We are of course okay. We are very good at communication and we thankfully talk things out. I think we are both under a lot of pressure. And he is super stressed with work.

Speaking of work, my new first graders continue to make me work hard. I have ALMOST mastered the fine art of patients. We had a better day today than yesterday...but we'll see what tomorrow brings. I don't for one minute fool myself and think I'm getting better at this. I am always thinking of what I can do to get them to listen. I will say this though, the mouth noises have gotten better.

In my previous life of a 3rd and/or 4th grade teacher, I was so good at classroom management. I have always thought it was one of my strengths. We respected each other and I hardly ever had discipline problems. Can you imagine how I feel now? I feel like I have no classroom management. You know the old saying, you are your own worst critic. And yes, I am doing that. I will however say this. I almost find them as a challenge for me. I have 5 more weeks with these kids and I will get them where I want them to be. LOL...it might be the last week I'm there, but IT WILL happen. And I don't want to leave this out. I NEVER think, I don't want to go there and see them (as surprising as that might sound).

Last, I went to dinner with two of my friends (Toyia and Lindsey). It was so nice to hang out and chat about nothing and everything. Not to mention that I have been really trying to be more aware of what I eat. Except tonight I was so hungry, I ate a hamburger and fries. I don't feel bad about that at all!
