Where does the time go?

Andy left for Wisconsin on the 17th. Days are difficult with him far away. Although he distance has given us a chance to work on our communication skills and get back on track. All the days I was working days and him nights was hard on our marriage. We're surviving though, no worries. Military life is a hard adjustment. It is especially hard being so far away from everyone and everything I know.

No fears though! I have made some girl friends and have been going out and about doing things. Just last night I went and had dinner with several of the ladies from my work. It was a good feeling to go out and do something like that. It would have been no big deal to have gone to dinner with friends back home, but here it seems like a rare occasion.

Last weekend I drove to the other side of the island with my friend Danielle. She works in my classroom in the morning. I drove and she directed me where to go. While I was driving, I remembered a lot of the roads and she only had to tell me things when I asked. I felt really proud of myself for remembering. But Andy does ask me all the time, "do you know where we're at". So I tend to pay attention to things.

We went shopping all afternoon and spent some of Andy's hard earned money!

I guess that's all for now. During the week I come home and talk with my roommate and then with Andy. It's nice he stays up very late to talk with me. But hey, he's on vacation so he can sleep in late. I'm going to hopefully do some more exploring on my own next weekend. I'll keep you updated! Bye for now.

Beer and Cake Batter (did I spell that right?)

Andy has been on a cake baking mission lately. I only eat a piece of cake and Andy eats the rest. He has made several different kinds. He even made a white cake with strawberry frosting. He said he always wanted a cake like that but his mother doesn't like white cake, so she wouldn't make it. He said "now that I'm 30, I'm going to have a white cake with strawberry icing". And it was very delicious!

Living in Hawaii, the houses tend to lean. Apparently the ground is always shaking or something. Anyway, the first time he made a cake, the cake was lop-sided. Andy started putting a knife in the oven, under the pan and it took care of the lop-sided cake.

Basketball Part ?

I have no idea what game this is...but it was from Wednesday night. After staying home for a day and a half in bed, I needed to get out of the house. So I went to watch Andy play basketball and took some pics. This was an interesting game. There were only 5 players there and none of them are "ball players" except for Andy. The team scored 39 points and Andy made 22 of them. Needless to say, they lost. But here are some good pictures that I took at the game. It has taken me a while to figure out Andy's new camera. But I think the pictures look okay.

Behind again!

I know I'm behind AGAIN. What can I say? I'm an awful blogger (and I get no help from the hubby).

This week I have still been under the weather. I actually got sent home from work on Tuesday after I threw up at work. Then I tried to go back to work on Wednesday and they said to go home. I originally wanted to stay home but Andy said "what if you get in trouble for calling out sick again". It also just happened that Andy got a call that he didn't have to work on Wednesday...so he was able to take care of me. Really, all I did was lay around with my heating pad since I was very achy...but it was still nice to have him around.

When I went back to work on Thursday, one of the babies walked over to me, sat on my lap and gave me a hug. The girls in my room said he got excited when he saw me through the window going into the room. It made me feel special.

Homesick

It has been a very long week.  I've been feeling pretty down.  I'm homesick, sick, and marriage seems hard when I work days and Andy works nights.  I came to the realization that I was only strong because I had my family and friends to help me be strong.  Being strong on my own is so much harder.  Andy will be back on days this week, thank goodness.  Maybe our life can get back to normal.  

Making friends has been difficult as well.  I am meeting new people and doing things but so many "girls" (they're 19 or so) only aspire to be what they are, a military wife.  Obviously, that isn't me at all.  My friend Jenn said it perfectly.  You're Daisie who happens to be married to Andy who's in the Navy (not the exact words, but something like that).  

Here is the funny thing though!  I wanted a break from teaching so badly.  But now I'd do anything to teach again.  Teaching is what makes me happy and feel complete.  

Now on to happier things.  Andy and I went to a really nice restaurant called Haliewa Joes.  I think that's how you spell it.  The W is pronounced like a V.  Anyway, here is the view from our table.  

Is 30 old?

Today I noticed that Andy has white hair.  His hair is a bit longer and I was able to see them.  He has way more than I do.  And then I was trying to scratch my back and my shoulder popped.  That's never happened to me before.  It happens to Andy all the time, but I thought it was because of sports.  

So the question is...Is 30 old?  Andy became 30 in January and it'll be my turn in October.  30 can't be old, right?

No Excuses!

There is not really an excuse for the fact that I haven't done the blog for quite some time.  I am so tired these days when I get home from work that I just can't seem to muster the energy to write about our days.  

Work has been going well.  I like my room but the ladies there are DRAMA.  Oh well...what can you do?  Andy's work schedule continues to be crazy and makes me frustrated.  I guess that's military life right?

Our weather has been so nice here, we forget that it's actually winter.  The past few days have been a bit chilly (70 degrees) but it doesn't stop me from wearing my flip flops.  Here are some pictures from our last few weeks.  I'll just show them instead of going into a lot of chatter.  I promise to get better at the blog since I've heard about it from several people.

Myself, Andy, our roommate Mario, and some other guy went to the Hawaii Water Park a couple of weekends ago.  The pics are of Andy.

Mario had a going away gathering this past Friday.  He's being stationed in Belgium.  We went on Booze Cruise, a fancy restaurant, and then a bar to celebrate.  On the cruise, we saw whales and dolphins.  It made me nauseous to be on there.  I would have liked the picture of us better if his sunglasses weren't so dark.  Oh well.
